These statistics are
calculated from the map routes followed. The total ascent represents the
overall height gained over the walk and does not indicate the maximum elevation
above sea-level reached. These figures do not include the Easy walks as
there are too many people and the routes are too varied on any given day.
In 2005 we started an additional series of more challenging and
interesting walks compared to those on Wednesdays. These are now carried
out in the Moderate Walk programme on Thursdays. During 2007 BaDNS
took on responsibility for running the Wednesday Easy Stride for Life Walks and
then started up an additional series of Moderate Walks allowing the original
advanced (Next Steps) walks
held on Mondays and latterly Tuesdays to become more adventurous and strenuous. In late
summer of 2011 the stakes were upped again on Tuesdays, with the introduction of
some Very Strenuous walks. These are further away and comprise demanding multi-Munro bagging days, alternating with the 'standard' Strenuous
Tuesday walks. At the same time we started multi-day trips, wild camping
trips and more advanced mountaineering activities.
